Computing

Minimum standards for Computing

Every child from years 1 – 6 must have one lesson per week of computing.

Through having weekly lessons of computing children will be able

to:

 understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of

computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data

representation

 analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated

practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve

such problems

 evaluate and apply information technology, including new or

unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems

 are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of

information and communication technology

Planning

All lessons must be planned using the agreed computing scheme of Rising

stars and adapted to meet the requirements of learners as necessary.

Assessment

Children must be assessed at the end of every unit. Pupils assessments

are then to be sent to SLT to be uploaded onto Pupil Asset.

Working wall

Each year group must have their own working wall displayed within the

computer suite linked to the learning unit they are completing. It must be

updated to launch new topics and used throughout a unit.

Class books

Each class must have their own class book to show the work they have

completed over the academic year.
