Inclusion
At Reffley Academy, inclusion is at the heart of our vision and practice. We are committed to ensuring that every child is valued, supported and able to participate fully in all aspects of school life. We recognise and celebrate the individuality of every pupil, and we work actively to remove barriers so that all children can achieve their best and feel a strong sense of belonging.
Inclusion at Reffley Academy encompasses:
- Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND): Identifying and meeting the needs of pupils with learning, communication, physical, sensory, social or emotional differences, through personalised support and high‑quality provision.
- Equality and Diversity: Ensuring fairness, respect and equal access for all pupils regardless of background, ethnicity, culture, gender, religion, beliefs, family circumstances or personal identity.
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs: Providing support for wellbeing, emotional regulation and positive relationships through pastoral care, nurturing environments and targeted interventions.
- English as an Additional Language (EAL): Supporting pupils who are new to English or developing proficiency, enabling them to succeed academically and socially.
- Disadvantaged Pupils / Pupil Premium: Removing barriers to learning and providing opportunities and experiences that promote achievement and aspiration for all.
- High Attaining and More Able Pupils: Ensuring challenge, extension and enrichment so that all learners, including the most able, can excel.
- Cultural Inclusion: Celebrating diversity, promoting understanding of different cultures, and ensuring every child feels represented and respected.
- Behaviour and Social Inclusion: Supporting positive behaviour, fostering friendships, and ensuring children feel safe, understood and included in all school activities.
- Accessibility and Participation: Providing physical, curriculum and communication access so that every child can take part in learning, clubs, trips and wider school life.
- Family Engagement: Working in partnership with parents and carers, valuing their insights and ensuring they are involved in decisions about their child’s support.
We believe that inclusive practice enriches our community and enables every child to grow with confidence, curiosity and kindness. Through our commitment to inclusion, we ensure that all pupils learn together, are supported effectively, and are given the opportunities they need to thrive.
